Layer blending wefts are great for hiding that disconnection between your hair extensions and your own hair.
The blending wefts can be worn in a higher position compared to weft extensions, this is because they are made with an ultra flat skin like edge.
1 Section your hair approximately 1-2cm below your regular hair parting.
2 Clip your layer blending weft as close to the front hair line as possible
3 Repeat for the weft below
Tips
Try out different positions for the blending wefts.
Choose a length which is either the same as your own hair/hair extensions or go a little shorter
Ask your stylist to shape the blending wefts, as they are dual purpose you can hide layers or creating a middle layer to blend your own hair shorter lengths into the hair extensions longer lengths.
Shade:
When selecting a shade, it’s best to choose a shade as close to your own hair as possible … if you’re unsure which shade to pick then pop along to our Shade Match Page where we will be happy to help you out!
Length:
It’s super easy to check which length would be best for you with our quick tip:
- Take a tape measure or ruler and try measuring downwards from the parting of your hair to check where the extensions will reach on you... we are all different shapes and sizes, but measuring in this way will give you a rough guideline of where the extensions will fall on you so you can judge which length you would be most comfortable with!
Styling Your Extensions:
You can use heat tools such as straighteners, curling irons/curlers and crimpers on your BG clip in hair extensions to achieve your desired style, but just as with our own hair, the less heat used the better! Always be sure to use a good quality heat protection treatment before using heat styling tools on your extensions. You may find it easier and faster to style your extensions compared to your own hair and as they generally respond to heat tools much quicker, be sure not to hold the heat tools onto the extensions for long periods of time. We advise against using sticky or greasy styling products on the extensions … styling products with a light silky texture are usually a much better option!
Cleansing Your Extensions:
We recommend cleansing your BG clip in hair extensions no more frequently than every 6 weeks (and only then if it’s really necessary and there’s a considerable build up of product on them). Follow our step by step guide closely when cleansing your extensions!
Step One: Mix half a cup of warm water with one tablespoon of shampoo. Choose a good quality moisture enriching shampoo specifically designed for dry hair.
Step Two: Fill a stain resistant sink or bowl with warm water and mix the cup of diluted shampoo into the water. De-tangle your hair extensions - brush out the ends, then the mid-lengths then from root to ends. Then gently place the hair extensions into the water and leave them for no longer than 10 minutes. Do not swish or swirl the hair as this will cause tangles! Once wet, never comb the hair!
Step Three: Remove the extensions from the shampoo mixture and rinse the hair under a running tap, be sure to hold the hair extensions at the top of the weft. Again, do not swish the hair around, just let the water run through the hair to rinse away the shampoo mixture.
Step Four: Gently squeeze out excess water and lay the extensions out flat on a towel. Apply a conditioning treatment to the hair extensions. A good quality repair treatment is usually best. Fold the towel over the hair and leave for one hour, then rinse the product out of the hair.
Step Five: Apply more of the repair conditioner treatment or a leave in conditioner. You can use a bit more than you would use on your own hair as it’s harder for extensions to get greasy! Fold them into a new towel and leave to dry naturally overnight. A safe place in an airing cupboard may help speed things up.
Step Six: Once your hair extensions have dried naturally, you can comb through (again start at the ends of the hair, followed by the mid lengths and then the roots to the ends). Apply a good quality heat protection product and straighten out one weft at a time then smooth over with a light smoothing product.
Dying Your Extensions:
BobbyGlam clip in hair extensions can only be dyed up to two shades darker or you can add a toner. They can’t be lightened or bleached at all as the extensions have already been through a chemical process and further bleaching or lightening is likely to affect the condition of the hair. Always be sure to conduct a strand test before dying or toning your extensions.
The only extensions which can be dyed darker by more than two shades are the ‘Dye It Yourself’ extensions. They are a neutral shade and will need to be pre-pigmented prior to dying. It is always easier to choose an extension shade which is already close to the target shade of dye you intend to use.
You will need to use more dye than usual - two boxes of dye per whole head of extensions. You must completely saturate the extensions in dye to prevent an uneven result.
We recommend applying dye to each strip of hair one at a time. Do not rub or tangle the hair … apply the dye and using the flat palms of your gloved hands, pat the dye through the hair in a stroking motion from root to tip.
Semi-permanent, permanent, quasi-permanent, toner and vibrant dyes can be used. The maximum peroxide which can be used is 20vol (6%). The hair can be dyed more than once, but just as your own hair will become damaged from certain dyes, so too will the extensions. Always follow the dye manufacturers instructions and our guidelines closely. Wear protective gloves and thoroughly rinse the dye from the hair. Be sure to follow our BG guidelines when washing and drying the hair!
